Stitch Fix #1

So, I've heard so much about this interesting service, Stitch Fix. I've been interested, but hesitant, because I was worried they'd send  me things I didn't like, or were too expensive, or both. I didn't want to waste $20 and not get anything for it. I actually looked into the service in quite detail a year or more ago but there was a long waiting list. I signed up, and was told I'd get an email when they were ready/able to style me. I'm not sure if they ever emailed me, as it's possible I ignored it.

Either way, I recently decided to give it a try. Here is how it went:

Item #1 - RD Style -Braddon Airy Knit V-Neck Sweater - $68

I liked this sweater ok, but I didn't love it. I wasn't sure how I would wear it. What color tank do you wear underneath? White would clash with the ivory, and I don't own an ivory tank. I don't like the look of a colored tank under light colored sweaters. Considering the steep price of this sweater, and the dilemma about how to wear it, I just couldn't justify keeping it. It was cute, and fit well though.

Item #2  - 41Hawthorn -Carson Graph Chevron Cross-Front Blouse -$64

I wanted to like this blouse. I loved the idea of it. It had a pretty chevron print, in some of my favorite colors, purples, and teals. I also like sheer tops, in general. However this blouse was just a mess for me. Instead of a traditional cross-front, it had a weird loop thing at the bottom, where one piece of material looped back up from the bottom to make the cross-front. Further, it was very blousy and made me look pregnant, which I AM NOT. It didn't take me long to decide, at all. This top definitely went back.

Item #3  - Octavia Alton Herringbone Infinity Scarf - $34

I almost kept this scarf. I loved the print and it was so soft. It was nice neutral colors that would go with many things. However, it had too much material for my short frame. I felt like I had a blanket wrapped around my neck, and I felt like it added too much bulk. I wish it had been a traditional scarf, rather than an infinity scarf, then I could have made it work.
So close!

Item #4 - Kensie Cian Houndstooth Print Dress - $64

I really wanted this dress to work. It has all the things I like in a dress: straight fit, rounded/crew neckline, and a pretty neutral pattern. I could see the dress with some tights and cute booties. I was so excited to try it on.

Unfortunately, the fit was all wrong. I didn't like the long sleeves - would have preferred 3/4 length. The dress was much shorter than I expected. It hit 4-5 inches above the knee, which is too short for work. The hip area was too fitted, but the chest and bust were too loose and blousy. I'd have to wear something underneath to keep showing my "business".
I was sad, but back it went.

Item #5 - Kut From The Kloth - Aberdine Ankle Length Straight Length Leg Jean - $78

Loved these jeans. They were a perfect in-between color, not too dark or light, and just a little distressing. They were a perfect fit, and hit just above the ankle - which is a length I love. Good fitting jeans are hard to find, and so I kept these!

I was sad that I only kept 1 of the 5 things they sent, but I still LOVED the experience so much that I already scheduled a 2nd delivery to come this week. This time I asked for a pair of straight or skinny fit dress pants, that I could wear to work and a cotton terry blazer. I pinned a super cute leopard cardigan and a cute blouse that I'd love to receive this time. I'm so hoping my stylist can make these pieces happen.

Baby Boy Blanket

This is my most recent project. I made a chevron baby blanket about a month ago and am keeping it to gift when someone I know has a girl. After it was done, I decided I need a similar boy's blanket to keep around for the next baby boy born.. It took me about a week and a half - working an hour or so each night.

I wanted to do something simple, but cute - and I wasn't really interested in using a  pattern. I like to crochet while I watch tv, using a patter requires too much attention. I decided on rows of double crochets in a multi-color yarn, and a white border.

Here's the yarn I used:

Less that 1 skein of Bernat's Softee Baby in white:

2 skeins of Bernat's Softee Baby in Little Boy Blue:

Here's what I did:

I used a size G hook, as specified on the yarn label.

chain to desired width (white)

4 rows of double crochets (white)

2 skeins of double crochets (little boy blue)
            * I didn't count the rows, I just stopped when I had used 2 whole skeins of the yarn

4 rows of double crochets (white)

4 rows of single crochet border

Lesson I learned about buying yarn: Buy all your yarn for a project at once. I bought the two Little Boy Blue skeins a few days apart at Michael's. I got 5 or 6 rows into the 2nd skein before I realized the slight color variation in the dark blue of the yarn. I was so upset. In the end I decided to just keep going, and take this as a lesson learned. I will still gift the blanket - handmade gifts are supposed to have slight mistakes etc. It's part of the charm if you ask me :)
